Lesson Plan: Coding with Colours

Age Group: 3-5 years 
Duration:
45 minutes 

Objective: Children will develop an understanding of basic coding concepts, such as sequencing and problem-solving, by using visual commands to guide a character or robot.

Te Whāriki learning outcomes fulfilled:

1) Making connections between people, places and things in their world.

2) Recognising and appreciating their own ability to learn.

3) Recognising print symbols and concepts and using them with enjoyment, meaning and purpose.

The New Zealand Curriculum:

1) Understand that technological systems have inputs, controlled transformations, and outputs.

2) Understand that technological outcomes are products or systems developed by people and have a physical nature and a functional nature.

3) Outline a general plan to support the development of an outcome, identifying appropriate steps and resources.
