Lesson Plan: Design & Discover

Age Group: 3-5 years 
Duration: 45 minutes

Objective: Develop design and construction skills, as well as an understanding of mathematical concepts such as angles and measurements, through trial-and-error-based activities.

Te Whāriki learning outcomes fulfilled:

1) Treating others fairly and including them in play.

2) They develop verbal communication skills for a range of purposes.

3) Playing, imagining, inventing and experimenting.

The New Zealand Curriculum:

1) Understand that there is a relationship between a material used and its performance properties in a technological product (level 2 - Technology).

2) Develop a plan that identifies the key stages and the resources required to complete an outcome (Level 2 - Technology).

3) Describe how natural features are changed and resources affected by natural events and human actions (Level 1 & 2 - Science).
